NAIROBI, Kenya- Social media is now the most powerful communication tool and for those who are good at reaching out to the masses, goodies come with the territory.

On Saturday when the Kenyan capital hosts one of the biggest sporting events of the year dubbed Nairobi Fight Night 2 that has trended for the past four days, two Tanzanian social media influencers Daudi Maguya (@sharogangstar) and Venance Veruli (@venancetemba) will be part of the party.

The duo emerged lucky winners of a three-day competition dubbed #JukwaaLaMabingwa that was run by entertainment and technology business, SportPesa Tanzania.

The contest required Facebook, Twitter and Instagram users to like and comment on Tanzanian boxing sensation Hassan 'Champez' Mwakinyo’s photo that was on the SportPesa Tanzania social pages.

Participants were the to post the same on platforms run by renowned sport pundit, Edo Kumwembe and former Africa Big Brother winner, Idris Sultan.

The competition ended on Thursday with Maguya and Temba emerging winners to earn a dream trip to Nairobi to witness their star Mwakinyo take on Argentine Sergio Eduardo 'El Tigre' Gonzalez and later, the big fight where Kenya's Fatuma 'Iron Fist' Zarika will put her WBC title on the line against Zambia's Catherine Phiri.

“I’m excited to be one of the two winners, at first I did not believe this because I’m always so unlucky.

“Secondly, most competitions in Tanzania are always won by Dar-es-Salaam residents and you know I’m from a small town called Mbeya, it was quite unbelievable until  received a phone call from SportPesa,” Maguya gushed upon his arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi.

Tanzanian boxing sensation, Hassan 'Champez' Mwakinyo

Temba, who is from Dar, was almost in tears when he was called and travelled to Kenya for the first time to attend the epic fight.

“I have never gone beyond Tanzania borders, leave alone getting into a plane. So this was very big news for me. I will forever be grateful for this exposure,” Temba highlighted.

The duo who both have a passion for boxing and regards American super star, Floyd Mayweather Jnr as their role model and tipped Mwakinyo, whom they met on Saturday morning, for victory.

“I feel Mwakinyo will floor Gonzalez because his punches are hard and heavy. We all know that the man from Tanga is here for business, he will not be joking with his opponent,” Temba stated.

Maguya believes Mwakinyo will win on points as the rivals are equally fit with respectable records.

While welcoming Maguya and Temba who had gone to pay him a courtesy call in his hotel, Mwakinyo assured the two that he will win the fight in order not let them down after travelling hundreds of kilometers to come and cheer him.

“I feel I’m carrying the weight of a whole nation on my shoulders, I know back in Tanga everyone will be watching,  All I can tell you is we are going for victory tonight,” Mwakinyo affirmed.
