NAIROBI, Kenya- Record Kenya Premier League (KPL) winners Gor Mahia FC have the chance to reclaim top spot when they take on Sofapaka FC on Wednesday afternoon.

The highly anticipated fixture, which is one of Gor’s two games in hand, is set to kick off at 3pm at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Steve Polack’s charges are currently in second place on the 2019/20 KPL table with 38 points, one shy of leaders Kakamega Homeboyz FC, who beat the champions 2-1 a fortnight ago.

This will be the first meeting between the sides this season, with the last fixture in May last year ending 2-0 in favor of Gor courtesy of goals from Sammy Onyango and now Petro Atletico striker Jacques Tuyisenge.

Batoto Ba Mungu currently lie in ninth place with 26 points, having only managed two wins in their last six outings.

The other midweek KPL fixture sees 12th place Zoo FC host Mathare United FC, who are 10 points but two places ahead of the hosts.

Zoo have not won in five matches, since a 3-0 victory against Kisumu All Stars FC on the first day of December in 2019.

This will be the first of two matches against each other, with Mathare scheduled to host the return fixture on Sunday, February 2 at the Kasarani Stadium.

The slum boys, who are under the tutelage of coach Salim Ali, have only managed six wins from 16 matches this season and will need to show massive improvement if they are to better their 10th place standing on the log.
