The highly talented midfielder agreed to extend his services to the League One side on Thursday, April 25. The 19-year-old with Kenyan roots expressed his joy for committing to his boyhood club insisting that it will allow him to grow professionally.

I’m buzzing. I’m grateful for the opportunities I have had here, and I am happy to get it done. My journey at Orient has been an emotional rollercoaster, and seeing other younger players such as Charlie Pegrum getting their chances has shown that there is an opportunity for me to kick on as well. I kept working until I got my chance," he told Leyton Orient after signing the new contract.

“The entire team has helped me, but players like Jayden Sweeney and Ruel Sotiriou have really helped me coming through as a young lad, and I can relate to them as they’ve passed through the academy as well," he added.

Leyton Orient Head Coach Richie Wellens played a key role in convincing the midfield maestro to sign a new contract at the club. Coach Wellens praised Obiero noting that his work rate keeps the team going.

Wellens made it clear that Obiero forms part of the team which is building to gain promotion to top-flight English football.

“Ever since I came to the club, I have been really impressed with Zech. He’s worked tirelessly on the training pitch and after spending some time away from us getting more used to senior football, he has now forced his way into the first-team picture. He’s an exciting player that can play a big part in the future of our squad, Wellens insisted.

His words were echoed by Leyton Orient Director of Football Martin Ling who pointed out that Obiero deserves a contract extension reiterating that he has worked tirelessly to earn his first-team spot.
