The recognition comes after the team secured bronze in the continental showpiece in Cairo, Egypt. The Kenya Volleyball Federation men's league reigning champions spanked Libya's Al Naser SC Club 3-2 in a pulsating five-set thriller.

The Dennis Mokua-led charges became the only Kenyan men's team to appear in the medal bracket twice, with the last one coming in 2011 where they bagged a silver medal.

Prisons were making a comeback to the international scene after five years in the cold.

Their victory at the continental level came after the team ended GSU’s six-year dominance to toast to their first league glory since 2016 after ending the round-robin playoffs on eight points.

Prisons held their nerves to defeat GSU in a five-set thriller on the final day of the three-day league’s climax.

Following the fete, Coach Mokua announced plans to build on that performance going forward.

"After losing in the semis, we focused on bronze in the play-off, and I am happy we achieved it. Going forward, we want to build up on this and see what happens next," he stated.

Mokua said: "Despite facing formidable opponents, including hosts Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly and Tunisia's Mouloudia, Kenya Prisons demonstrated resilience to make the podium."

He acknowledged that their journey to the podium was a difficult one, but the players displayed commitment and resilience.

"We have learned our lessons in the entire championships, and we will go back to the drawing board and rectify our mistakes in readiness for our next assignment," Mokua added.
