Harambee Stars eye Four Nations Cup glory ahead of crunch finale against Zimbabwe

The stage is set for Kenya and Zimbabwe to lock horns in a much-awaited friendly match scheduled to kick off at 5 PM on Tuesday at the Bingu National Stadium in Malawi.

Speaking ahead of the crunch tie, Harambee Stars manager Engin Firat described Zimbabwe as a tough opponent that can cause problems to any team and was coy to back his charges replicating the impressive performance they registered against Malawi where they won 4-0.

"There is never a guarantee for it (a win) because every match has its own story, so we will see because we are facing a very good team.

They played against Zambia which is a powerhouse in Africa with a great coach, and were 2-0 behind but they changed the result,” he noted.

The coach, who hails from Turkey, also named one thing that makes the Zimbabwean squad better than some of the nations that he has come against in his career.

“We know we are facing not only qualities but also big characters which will be a tough match for us. It also means we have to be prepared because we are facing a team that is mentally very strong,” said

Goals scored by experienced winger Ayub Masika Timbe, John Avire and captain fantastic Michael Ogada Olunga who netted a brace helped Kenya to overcome Malawi in the semis.

Besides the attacking prowess, Police FC goalkeeper Patrick Matasi and the entire Harambee Stars backline, which had the likes of Daniel Anyembe and Stade de Reims star Joseph Okumu, also did an excellent job, with the former saving a crucial penalty in the second half.

On the other hand, Zimbabwe qualified for the last round after overcoming one-time African Cup of Nations (AFCON) winners Zambia 6 – 5 on post-match penalties.

The entertaining game, which was also played at the Bingu National Stadium, ended in a 2 – 2 draw in regulation time with Walter Musona and Macauley Bonne finding the back of the net for the Warriors.

Zambia’s goals were scored by Clatous Chama and Stoppila Sunzu in the first half of the end to end match.
