AFC Leopards end 60th birthday in style, collect millions from President Ruto and other leaders

AFC Leopards ended their 60th birthday celebrations by collecting millions of shillings from guests who turned up to watch their game against Spanish fourth-tier side AE Ramassa. Ingwe won the match 2-1 despite its first team not featuring.

However, the highlight of the celebration was a surprise of birthday gifts delivered by several leaders who attended the event.

President William Ruto who was the guest of honour gifted Ingwe Ksh10 million in cash.

"Because I have come here to attend Ingwe's birthday, I have here with me Ksh10 million for the club," Ruto announced.

Ruto had earlier announced that he would give the club Ksh10 million following a meeting at State House where he encouraged the club to adopt a corporate system.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi gifted the team Ksh1 million while Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba delivered Ksh2 million to the FKF Premier League side.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja who is also the former patron of the club gave out Ksh2 million in support of Ingwe's activities. Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka and his Kisii Counterpart gave Ksh1 million each while Nairobi Senator closed up the price-giving session by gifting Ingwe Ksh250,000.

During the ceremony, President William Ruto vowed to develop sports and also to invest in the development of sports infrastructure in the country.

"I want to commit to you as sportsmen and women that we are properly aligned under our bottom-up transformation agenda and football is front, centre, left, right as we go into the future.

We are also proud of our national team Harambee Stars who beat Malawi on Saturday in a four-nation tournament in Blantyre," President Ruto said.

"As we speak, our U19 team from Talanta Hela is currently in Spain for training because we have decided that sports will move forward in our nation," he added.

The Head of State further reiterated that the Jamhuri Sports City will be completed before the 2027 AFCON games which Kenya will co-host with Uganda and Tanzania.

"As we speak, our Kasarani Stadium is undergoing renovations and in Jamhuri we are building a new stadium worth Ksh30 billion which will be ready before 2027," he reiterated.
