Nyakeya Tops Scoring Chart, Mathare Consolidate SPL Lead

The third win by Nzoia Sugar FC moved them to seventh with 14 where they are tied on points with Sofapaka FC, Kariobangi Sharks FC and Sony Sugar FC

NAIROBI, Kenya- Mathare FC talisman, Cliff Nyakeya rules SportPesa Premier League (SPL) scoring chart this week with five goals after he successfully guided his side to thrash visiting Vihiga United FC 3-1 at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani in Nairobi on Sunday.

Nyakeya notched the third goal that sealed Mathare’s win in the one sided encounter  in the 53rd minute.

The  effort has put him at par with Ulinzi Stars FC’s Enosh Ochieng who has also found the back of the net five times this season.

As a result of the victory, Mathare have opened a five point margin at the top of SPL standings between them and second placed Bandari FC.

Unbeaten Mathare have so far accumulated 23 points after seven wins and two draws.

Bandari, who have a match in hand,  were engaged in the 2019 SportPesa Cup in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania where they lost 0-1 to Kariobangi Sharks FC in the final that was also played on Sunday.

Bandari are also unbeaten with 18 after five wins and two draws.

The contest pitting Sofapaka FC against Zoo Kericho FC which was one of the double header games at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos had the most number of goals as Sofapaka edged the rivals 3-2.

The Batoto Ba Mungu scaled to sixth with 14 while the loss saw Zoo dipped to 16th with seven.

Zoo will have to fight hard this weekend not to fall in the relegation path that has trapped Posta Rangers FC and Mt.Kenya United FC for several weeks now.

The other double header match at Machakos  involving  Kenya Commercial Bank FC and defending champions Gor Mahia FC ended 1-0 in favour of the former.

Despite the loss, Gor are still perched in the top ten where they are placed ninth with 13 while KCB successfully moved from relegation zone to 12th with 10.

Mt.Kenya are still stuck at the bottom of the table following a 1-2 loss to Nzoia Sugar FC at Sudi Stadium.

The third win by Nzoia moved them to seventh with 14 where they are tied on points with Sofapaka,Sharks and Sony Sugar FC who piped Rangers 1-0 at Awendo Green Stadium in Migori.

Ulinzi remained in 10th  with 12 after sharing spoils with Kakamega Homeboyz FC at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.Homeboyz are 13th with nine after two wins, three draws and four losses.
