Stima Climb To Third After SPL Draw With Nzoia

Both sides were awarded penalties in the second half which were all notched for the 2-2 stalemate,Ulinzi and Tusker also battled to a barren draw in the other fixture of the day

NAIROBI, Kenya- Western Stima FC climbed to third place in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) standings following a 2-2 draw with visiting  Nzoia Sugar FC at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday.

The power men took a 1-0 lead through Vincent Odongo in the 13th minute but Stephen Etyang  equalised for the visitors in the 22nd to put the scores 1-1 at half time.

The hosts stretched their tally to 2-1 in the 68th  when custodian Samuel Abawa converted a penalty which was awarded  after Nzoia’s Peter Gin was adjudged by the centre referee to have handled the ball inside their box.

Stima failed to hold on to the lead when the opponents were also  awarded a penalty which was duely converted by Jackson Duang in the 81st minute to level 2-2 after Kevin Akongo handled the ball inside their area.

Following the draw, Stima climbed to third place with 15 points after four wins, three draws and one loss while Nzoia moved to eighth with 10 after two wins, four draws and one loss.

The other fixture of the day pitting Ulinzi Stars FC against Tusker FC at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru ended in a barren draw.Tusker scaled to fourth behind Stima with 14 while Ulinzi moved to tenth with 10.
