NAIROBI, Kenya- Mathare United FC thrashed Vihiga United FC 3-1 at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi  to maintain their lead in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) on Sunday.

An won goal by Johnstone Omurwa gave Vihiga a 0-1 advantage in the 31st minute but new signing, Kevin Kimani leveled the scores 1-1 for the hosts in the 42nd via a penalty shot.

Moffat Juma deflected the ball into his own net from a David Owino's cross to stretch Mathare’s tally 2-1 in the 50th.

Unbeaten Mathare now have 23 points after seven victories and two draws while Vihiga dropped to 14th with nine after one win, six draw and three losses.

Elsewhere, Nzoia Sugar FC edged basement side, Mt.Kenya United FC 2-1 at Sudi Stadium to move to the top ten.Nzoia are now seventh with 14 while Mt.Kenya are stuck at the bottom with three.

Sofapaka FC also edged Zoo Kericho FC 3-2 in one of the double header matches at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to move to sixth with 14.The loss saw Zoo dipped to 16th with seven.

The other match at the venue pitted defending champions Gor Mahia FC against Kenya Commercial Bank FC.

Sony Sugar FC also scrapped a 1-0 win against Posta Rangers FC at Awendo Green Stadium in Migori as Ulinzi Stars FC shared spoils with Kakamega Homeboyz FC at Afraha Staium in Nakuru.
