KCB Depart For Cairo Eyeing CAVB Women’s Club Championship Trophy

The bankers last won the tournament in 2006 when they beat Egyptian giants Al Ahly Cairo 3-2 in the finals held in Vacoas, Mauritius

- Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Volleyball Club departed for Cairo, Egypt on Friday morning for the 2019 CAVB Women’s Club Volleyball Championship slated for March 14 to 25 with all the six new signings making the squad
- Head coach Japheth Munala has appointed experienced attacker Noel Murambi to skipper the team in the tournament that the bankers last won in 2006 when they beat Egyptian giants Al Ahly Cairo 3-2 in the finals held in Vacoas, Mauritius
- KCB finished second behind champions Kenya Prisons in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) play-offs held at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi last December to qualify for the continental event
NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Volleyball Club departed for Cairo, Egypt on Friday morning for the 2019 CAVB Women’s Club Volleyball Championship slated for March 14 to 25.
The six new players entrusted by head coach Japheth Munala to bring the medal back home include Malkia Strikers right attacker Violet Makuto, hard hitting Noel Murambi, utility player Leonida Kasaya, upcoming Jemimah Siangu, Truphosa Samoei and Christine Njambi.
"We are delighted to send the team to this year's continental championship.
"The players worked hard to qualify for this event and I wish them the best of luck in Egypt,” KCB Group Chief Operations Officer, Samuel Makome underlined.

Others who made the cut are Milgreen Lituva, Metrine Nabwire, Eglay Kuloba, Lincy Jeruto, Doreen Marani and Modesta Chepchirchir.
Munala has appointed experienced attacker Murambi to skipper the team in the tournament that the bankers last won in 2006 when they beat Egyptian giants Al Ahly Cairo 3-2 in the finals held in Vacoas, Mauritius.
Munala believes the two months preparations they had has helped them gain strength and skills that will give them an edge over their opponents in the continental showpiece.

“We have been there before. The competition is never a walk in the park and we had to work extra hard to be at par with other clubs,” Munala underscored.
KCB finished second behind champions Kenya Prisons in the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) play-offs held at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi last December to qualify for the continental event.
Prisons and Kenya Pipeline who finished KVF League play-offs in third place will also represent the country in Cairo. Pipeline won bronze in last year’s contest which was also held in Egypt.
