The club won the Africa Club Volleyball contest held in Vacoas, Mauritius,in 2006 after beating Egyptian giants, Al Ahly Cairo 3-2 in the finals

NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Volleyball Club head coach Japheth Munala wants his side to be a force to reckoned with in the 2019 CAVB Women’s Club Volleyball Championship slated for March 14 to 25 in Cairo, Egypt.

It is on this note that the former Malkia Strikers tactician has embarked the team on an intensive training ahead of the continental showpiece which they are planning to win.

“We started our practices on January 2, so far there has been massive improvement as the players continue to gel with the new signings.

“We commenced with body conditioning before ball work this week.Our next phase will be service reception where we will dwell for a while.After that we will head for full play in the coming weeks,” Munala underlined.

Munala believes his months preparation schedule will enable the charges to gain more strength and skills that will give them an edge over their opponents in the African championship.

“We have been there before.The competition is never a walk in the park.So we have to work extra hard to be at par with other clubs.I want my defence to be well coordinated and my attack to be well refined,” he underscored.

Other areas the coach will strengthened before their departure to Cairo include positioning,team work,unity,resilience and mental focus.

Won bronze

KCB finished second behind champions Kenya Prisons in the Kenya Volleyball Federation play-offs held at  Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani in Nairobi last December to qualify for the continental event.

Ahead of the challenge, KCB have acquired the services of Malkia Strikers right attacker, Violet Makuto.

Makuto is  among the seven players who have been signed up by the club alongside centers Leonida Kasaya, Noel Murambi and Christine Njambi, setters Veronica Kilabat and  Jemima Siangu and Truphosa Chepkemei in left attack.

Makuto, who has been a regular in the national team for six years,said they can achieve alot this year with discipline and hard work.

 “I’m happy to join this club, I will work harder to put the team on the national and global front as I look forward to bag major titles,” she highlighted.
