NAIROBI, Kenya- Title holders Gor Mahia FC will battle Kariobangi Sharks FC in a SportPesa Premier League (SPL) match at Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Saturday that will give them a chance to go to the top of the standings for the first time this season.

Victory will see second-placed K’Ogalo move to the summit on 38 points, two above Sofapaka FC who are currently in command of the log.

In case of any loss, Gor will still have two matches in hand after the encounter with Sharks which gives them an edge over other close rivals.

On the other hand, sixth-placed Sharks head to the game wounded after suffering a 3-1 loss to Tusker FC on Wednesday in Ruaraka and victory over Gor will brighten their hope for the domestic league crown after clinching the 2019 SportPesa Cup in Dar es Salaam,Tanzania in late January.

Both sides will again return to action early next week with Sharks taking on Muranga Seal FC in a SportPesa Shield contest at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani in Nairobi on Monday as Gor travel to Mbaraki in Mombasa to battle Bandari in the same tournament on Wednesday.

The other SPL fixture this weekend will be the encounter pitting Chemelil FC against Tusker FC at Chemelil Sports Complex.

Tusker management on Thursday announced the closure of their Ruaraka Grounds for some extensive face-lifts.

“We wish to inform the media, our fans and the general public that we have shifted our home ground from Ruaraka to Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos to pave way for the intended renovations,” the club said in a communique released to the news rooms.
