MANAMA, Bahrain- The revamped SportPesa Racing Point Formula One team have stated their intent to take the opportunity in the second race of the season and make it count as they prepare to challenge for the Bahrain Grand Prix honors.

SportPesa Racing are currently in seventh on the constructor’s standings after the opening GP in Melbourne on March 17, where young sensation Lance Stroll put on an amazing show to bag two points with his ninth-place finish.

Stroll exhibited a majestic performance to keep Daniil Kyvat of Toro Rosso and Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly at bay with exemplary driving skills but was unfortunate not to overtake veteran Kimi Raikkonen, who finished barely a second ahead of him.

Sergio ‘Checo’ Perez, who is the more experienced driver of the two, did not have as good an outing as his new teammate as he battled to a 13th place finish but both drivers are keen to better that performance in Sakhir this weekend.

“Melbourne was great and it worked very well for me. I believe the strategy we adopted was good and as long as we keep that sense of cohesion in the team, I know we will do even better as the season progresses,” Stroll told SportPesa News.

Stroll joined SportPesa Racing at the start of the 2019 season, replacing Esteban Ocon and the 20-year old is regarded as one of the most talented young drivers on the track.

“I thrive off the fact that I’m young and still have a lot to prove. I live for that thrill.

“The focus is now shifted to Bahrain and I am prepared to give it my all like I do in every race. I am working toward bettering my performance from the opening race,” the Canadian-Belgian driver explained.

His Mexican teammate Perez has been with the team, formerly Force India, for over five years and maintains that the performance from the first race has done little to interfere with his seasons goals as he prepares for the Bahrain track.

“I had a slow start in Melbourne and that cost me just as it would any driver on the track. We had a good strategy that we didn’t fully maximize on but this weekend will definitely be better,” Perez stated at the SportPesa Racing paddock in Bahrain.

“I like this track; it’s very technical and gives us the opportunity to show what we can do with our cars. I’m really looking forward to the race on Sunday.

The track in Sakhir aslo reinvigorates Perez’ drive and hunger to perform having finished on the podium after a respectable race saw him battle to third place, finishing only behind both Mercedes Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

“That was my favorite race in Bahrain and one I will never forget for as long as I live. It was also my debut season for my team and it boosted my morale.

“I know I am very capable and I have a teammate who is hungry as well so that competition and desire to want more will definitely help us improve this weekend.
