EGYPT, Kenya- Confederation of African Football (CAF) has suspended five key Gor Mahia FC players over disciplinary issues ahead of the club’s Confederation Cup quarterfinal battle against Renaissance Sportive de Berkane of Morocco in Nairobi on April 7.

The players are goal keeper Fredrick Odhiambo, captain Haron Shakava, Rwanda international Jacques Tuyisenge, Ugandan midfielder Shafik Batambuze and Ernest Wendo.

“For having received two cautions in two different matches in the frame of this competition, player number 18 Haron Shakava is automatically suspended for his next match against R.S Berkane,” read a communique from CAF released on Tuesday.

Prolific goal poacher Tuyisenge will miss two games, both home and away fixture against Berkane, after also accumulating four yellow cards in the ongoing competition.

“He has committed a repeated infringement and is automatically suspended for his next two games,” CAF underlined.

Batambuze and Wendo were both red-carded in the high tempered clash against Petro Atletico de Luanda of Angola that Gor won 1-0 at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani in Nairobi on March 17 to sail into the tournament quarterfinals.

Batambuze will miss the next two games while Wendo, who also had two cautions in two different matches, will miss three.

Should Gor fail to qualify for semis, Wendo’s suspension will still stand even if the team return to the championship next season.

The continental football governing body has also banned Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay for continuous protesting against the decisions that were made by Morrocan referee, Redouane Jiyed, during their clash with Atletico at Kasarani, prompting his sent-off in the 54th minute during the encounter.

“The coach is automatically suspended for the next match (against RS Berkane), kindly note that he is banned from sitting on the technical bench and accessing the dressing rooms,” CAF highlighted.

K’Ogalo finished second in Group ‘D’, equal on points with leaders Zamalek FC of Egypt, to sail into the tournament quarterfinals, as Atletico and NA Hussein Day of Algeria crashed out on eight and seven in that order.
