MACHAKOS, Kenya- Defending champions Gor Mahia FC suffered their first defeat of the season by going down 0-1 against rivals Mathare United FC in a SportPesa Premier League match played at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Wednesday.

SportPesa Cup holders Bandari FC also lost 1-3 to hosts Western Stima FC at Moi Stadium in Kisumu in another midweek encounter.

Daniel Otieno rose high to power in a header past Gor’s custodian David Mapigano from a Kevin Kimani's perfectly weighed corner kick to give Mathare the lead in the 88th minute.

The victory saw unbeaten Mathare scale to sixth on the log on 14 points while Gor, who were also unbeaten before the match, remained second on 15, but with two games at hand.

In another twist, Stima stunned visiting Bandari with three quick goals scored by by Samuel Odhiambo (48th), Brian Otieno (own goal, 50th) and Baron Jobita (52nd) to record victory.

Bandari had taken a 1-0  lead at half time before the four minute madness erupted.

The loss dipped Bandari to 10th on 11 while Stima rose to seventh on 13.
