SPL: Mathare United, Rangers Share Spoils In Machakos

MACHAKOS, Kenya- Mathare United FC were held to a barren draw by Posta Rangers FC in a SportPesa Premier League (SPL) match at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Friday evening.

Strikers from both sides failed to find the back of the net despite  numerous open chances that went into waste.

The stalemate left the hosts, who have a game in hand, in ninth place on 11 points after seven matches while Posta, also on 11, scaled the ladder to eighth.

This was Posta’s third consecutive deadlock after playing barren draws against Zoo Kericho FC and newcomers Wazito FC in their last two fixtures.

Mathare also drew with Wazito and SportPesa Cup holders Kariobangi Sharks FC in the last three outings.

Meanwhile, SPL champions Gor Mahia FC will put their unbeaten start to the season on the line when they face another side that is yet to lose -Western Stima FC- on Saturday.

Gor, who were out of action last weekend due to continental duty in the CAF Confederations Cup, remain top of the SPL log with 15 points from five games, with two games in hand.

Stima on the other hand are in 10th with 10 points and have began the 2019/20 campaign on course to retain the top flight status they achieved last season.

Second place AFC Leopards SC will host Ulinzi Stars FC on Sunday at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, knowing that if eternal rivals Gor drop points they will go into the Mashemeji Derby next week leading the pack.
