Resurgent KCB Break Into SPL Top 10, Ochieng' Rescues Point For Ulinzi

MACHAKOS, Kenya- Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) FC continued their improved form in the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) by breaking into the top 10 following a 2-0 victory over Mt. Kenya United FC at the Kenyatta Stadium on Monday afternoon.

Former Kariobangi Sharks FC defender, Bolton Omwenga, rose to the occasion and scored twice in either half to secure KCB’s third win of the 2018/19 campaign.

Omwenga opened the scoring in the 18th minute before doubling the Lions advantage two minutes into the second half to bolt them into 10th place with 15 points.

KCB have shown a massive improvement and have turned their fortunes around after languishing in the relegation zone for majority of the campaign.

The Frank Ouna-coached side is now unbeaten in eight games and highlighting that run is two similar 1-0 wins against champions Gor Mahia FC and AFC Leopards SC in January.

Following the surprise triumph over 17-time champions Gor, KCB held Zoo Kericho FC in a thrilling 2-2 draw then a barren draw away to Posta Rangers FC.

Their next fixture is a home tie against Sony Sugar FC on Saturday, February 16. Sony are only a point above the bankers.

Elsewhere on Monday, SPL top scorer Enosh Ochieng’ struck in added time to salvage a 1-1 draw against Western Stima FC.

David Omengo put the newcomers ahead in the fifth minute, a lead they held on to until the dying moments of the game when Ochieng’ leveled matters to increase his tally to seven for the season.

Stima remain in sixth place with 20 points, whilst Ulinzi are in 12th, six points behind their opponents having not won a match since a 2-1 win against Sony on January 13.

Sony and Chemelil Sugar FC played out to a barren draw in the other Monday fixture at the Awendo Green Stadium.

The result leaves Sony at ninth and Chemelil rise a place higher to 15th, a point above the relegation zone.

Four matches are lined up for tomorrow (Tuesday) with the headlining fixture pitting league leaders Mathare United FC, who are without a win in their last three and Sofapaka FC.
