SUMMARY
  • AFC Leopards and Tusker played to a barren draw on Monday afternoon.
  • The result left Ingwe in 14th place on 11 points.
  • Tusker stayed 12th on 15 points.

AFC Leopards missed a chance of moving away from the relegation territory after playing to a barren draw against Tusker on Monday afternoon at the Machakos Stadium.

In the matchday 13 fixture, the 12-time Kenyan champions were not at their best with their forwards failing to put enough pressure on the Brewer’s defensive line which did not have much to do.

Ingwe’s best chance of the encounter came in the 15th minute when Brian Yakhama’s header was cleared to safety by Tusker shot stopper Brian Bwire.

Seven minutes later, the Brewers had a chance to score but Joseph Mwangi’s shot missed the target much to the relief of Ingwe supporters.

Head coach Tomas Trucha tried to change the game with the introduction of Ronald Shicenje with less than 20 minutes remaining to the end of the regulation time but nothing good came out of it.

The result extended Ingwe’s winless run to five games with the former champions last winning a match on October 29 when they narrowly beat Nzoia Sugar 1-0 in western Kenya. Since then, the club has lost two matches and picked up three draws including the Tusker result.

Overall, Leopards have only managed one win this season, with their form continuing to cause Trucha sleepless nights.

AFC Leopard’s fans expressed their frustrations on the club’s social media accounts with some feeling nostalgic.

“Nowadays a draw is such an achievement for our beloved club. How some of us miss the days of the likes of Murilla, Mulamba, Amwayi and Masiga,” read one Facebook comment.

Others questioned why Ingwe’s management sacked Tom Juma, arguing that they have not seen any difference since his departure in October due to a number of poor performances.

AFC Leopards returned to the 14th position in the table standings with 11 points, with their small goal difference separating them with Shabana and Sofapaka who are currently occupying the relegation places having conceded more goals than them.

Ingwe’s arch-rivals Gor Mahia are enjoying a rich vein of form as they currently sit at the top with 27 points while Muhoroni Youth are bottom having amassed only eight points the entire season.
