Week 13 of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) was filled with a lot of surprises and heartbreaks as giants fell in the hands of minnows.

Samuel Kapen scored a crucial goal on Saturday to help Nairobi City Stars pick up three crucial points against previous table toppers Posta Rangers.

Meanwhile, K’Ogalo prevailed against Kariobangi Sharks and in the process moved to the top of the FKFPL standings.

Sofapaka, who have struggled a lot this season broke the hearts of Nzoia Sugar supporters as favorites Murang’a Seal suffered a 2 - 0 defeat in the hands of hosts Police FC at the Police Sacco grounds. Here is a wrap of the exciting action from match day 13.

Gor Mahia take control of the league

Record FKFPL Champions Gor Mahia took command of the league after narrowly beating Kariobangi Sharks 2-1 in a match held at the Machakos Stadium in Machakos town.

K’Ogalo’s opening goal came courtesy of Alpha Onyango’s powerful strike from in the closing stages of the first half.

Gai Panchol thought he had given Sharks an important point in the 82nd minute when he equalized but Benson Omalla proved him wrong.

The red-hot forward found the back of the net in extra time to gladden the hearts of K’Ogalo fans as he extended his tally to nine goals. 

The win took the Jonathan McKinstry coached side to the helm of the FKFPL log, two points above their title rivals Posta Rangers. 

Nairobi City Stars shock Posta Rangers

The surprise of the weekend came in the Nairobi City Stars versus Posta Rangers clash which was also staged in Machakos.

No one ever thought Simba wa Nairobi could take maximum points against an in-form Rangers side, but in football miracles do happen and that is what exactly occurred on Saturday.

City Stars struck the opener through Kapen early in the first half and managed to hold on the lead through the entire game. The massive win ensured the club continued with their progress as they moved to position nine in the table on 18 points. 

Sofapaka make mincemeat out of Nzoia Sugar

Sofapaka’s massive leap from the bottom place to position 15 just proved how competitive the FKFPL is this season. 

Batoto ba Mungu thrashed Nzoia Sugar 3 -1 in an exciting encounter staged at Sudi Stadium in Western Kenya.

Darius Msagha put the 2009 champions ahead in the 19th minute before Emmanuel Osoro equalized for the hosts at the hour mark.

However, it only took a short time before Fiston Abdoul Razak restored Sofapaka’s lead to silence the home fans. The Burundian goal poacher then scored his brace later in the second half to help Sofapaka pick up the maximum points which took them away from the relegation zone.

The last match of week 13 will see AFC Leopards battle it out with Tusker FC in Machakos on Monday, December 4 at 3 pm,
