Gor Mahia complete Nzoia Sugar comeback as Nairobi City Stars beat Murang'a Seals

FKF Premier League leaders Gor Mahia returned to winning ways in decent fashion after sinking bottom-placed side Nzoia Sugar 1-2 on Saturday, April 13 at Sudi Stadium in Bungoma.

Gor Mahia had to fight back from a goal down to collect the maximum points against the Millers.

This is after Nzoia had pulled an early shocker to Johnathan McKinstry's side when David Simiyu converted a penalty in the 26th minute to give the hosts the lead.

Gor Mahia had to wait till the 43rd minute when Shariff Musa scored his first goal for K'Ogalo to bring them level against the Millers.

McKinstry's side added their second in the match after Bryson Wangai slotted in Musa's cross in the 61st minute before Benson Omalla increased his goal tally to 12 in the 90th minute to further sink Mike Mururi's side.

The first leg meeting between the two sides played at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homabay ended in a 2-2 draw, with Gor Mahia having to fight from two goals down to secure a point from the duel.

Following the win, Gor Mahia still tops the FKF Premier League with 54 points while Nzoia sits at the basement with 17 points.

Elsewhere, Nairobi City Stars' recorded a 3-0 win over Murang'a Seal at the Police Sacco Stadium on Saturday.

Simba Wa Nairobi opened the score in the 54th minute after Samuel Semo brought down the speedy winger Samuel Kapen in the box. Mohamed Bajaber stepped up and put it past Murang'a Seal goalkeeper Bonphas Munyasa.

Kapen created the second chance in the 59th minute allowing Dennis Oalo to slot it for the second goal.

In the 87th minute, Japanese forward Yuto Kusaba scored from twelve yards after Ally Yusuf brought Kapen down. The tackle prompted the centre referee to give Yusuf a red card reducing the Seals to 10 men.

Nicholas Muyoti's side is now tied with Kenya Police on 42 points but with a one-game advantage. Seals on the other side drop to 11th on the FKF Premier League log with 34 points.

At the Mumias Complex in Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz forced a 1-1 draw with Kariobangi Sharks courtesy of Shaffik Batambuze's first-half free kick.

Sharks were first to get on the scoresheet in following Moses Shikanda's well-hit freekick.

Currently, William Muluya's side stands 12th on the FKFPL log with 31 points while Kakamega Homeboyz are struggling to secure a top-six finish with 39 points.

In other matches played on Saturday, Bandari blew away their chance of climbing to second in the FKFPL league after playing to a 1-1 draw against Bidco United at Mombasa Sports Ground.

Andrew Juma scored from a corner kick delivery to the Dockers the lead in the 44th minute but Emmanuel drew Bidco level after converting a spot kick in the 60th minute.

Bandari has 44 points while Bidco sits 9th in the league with 34 points.

Two sides who are fighting to escape the relegation battle, Sofapaka and Ulinzi FC played to a 1-1 draw clash at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

Issa Lumumba gave Ulinzi the lead in the first half additional minutes before Amos Asembeka converted a penalty to secure a crucial point for Batoto Ba Mungu.

The draw means that Ulinzi have 30 points while Sofapaka, who recently appointed Ronald Okoth as their CEO, have 28 points.
