NAIROBI, Kenya- A top of the table clash headlines the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) fixtures this weekend as leaders Gor Mahia FC host Sofapaka FC on Sunday afternoon at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.

Holders Gor come into the fixture seven points clear of Sofapaka, who are in second with 56 points.

The Hassan Oktay-coached side have not tasted defeat in the league in 19 games, the best run of the 2018/19 SPL campaign, with their last loss dating back to January; a 1-0 loss to Kenya Commercial Bank FC (KCB).

Sofapaka on the other hand are on their best run of form, without a loss in their last 15 matches.

Ironically, the last time John Baraza’s team lost was a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Gor in February, meaning they will be out for revenge as they seek to reduce the point difference at the top.

A win for K’Ogalo will mean they will only need two more wins for them to clinch a third successive SPL title and a record-extending 18th.

AFC Leopards SC (35) were unlucky to see their 10-match unbeaten streak halted by 2008 champions Mathare United FC (46) and will be looking to resume winning ways against Sony Sugar FC (45) on Sunday.

Leopards new signing Paul Were, who is serving his second spell at the den, was on target in the 1-1 draw with Zoo FC (22) in midweek and will need to be on top form for his side at the Green Stadium in Awendo.

A win for Sony could see them leapfrog Mathare into the SPL top five as the end of the season draws ever so close.

Leopards have a midweek test against KCB FC (34) before the biggest game of their SPL campaign next weekend, the Mashemeji Derby at the Kasarani Stadium.

Francis Kimanzi’s Mathare will be up against basement side Mt. Kenya United FC (18) at Kasarani.

Mathare are coming off a narrow 3-2 loss to Kariobangi Sharks FC (38) in a match dubbed the Slum Derby at the same venue on Wednesday and will need to secure all three points to maintain their top-five status.

Harambee Stars international Allan Wanga leads the SPL Golden Boot race with 17 goals and will lead his Kakamega Homeboyz FC (48) against 12th place Western Stima FC (34) on Sunday.

The game will be played at the Bukhungu Stadium, with Homeboyz still on course to their best-ever SPL finish and a win against Stima will take them within a point of third-place Bandari, who are not in action until next Tuesday.
