Agwanda Named SJAK/SportPesa Player Of The Month For July

Player accumulated 17 votes to beat Bandari FC custodian ,Farouk Shikhalo, and his teammate, Tobias Omondi, to the crown

AWENDO, Kenya- Sony Sugar FC forward, Enock Agwanda, emphasised that his main motivation was his wife as he was crowned the SportPesa/Sports Journalists Association Of Kenya (SJAK) July Player of the Month Award winner.

Agwanda was presented the trophy, a cheque of KShs 100,000 from SportPesa and a 49-inch television from LG on Tuesday at the Awendo Green Stadium.

“I’m very happy to be recognised for this award and though I didn’t expect it, it’s a dream come true.

“The games were hard but as a team we fought firmly and it paid off in the end,” he told SportPesa News.

Agwanda was voted the July Player of the Month Award winner after accumulating a total of 17 votes, beating Bandari FC custodian Farouk Shikhalo (15) and his teammate Tobias Omondi Otieno (10).

Agwanda was Sony Sugar’s talisman, scoring twice against Nzoia Sugar FC and Sofapaka FC and providing two assists as well in the same month.

“I only scored two times in July and I’ve already scored more this month, so hopefully, I can get the award again before the end of the season,” Agwanda added.

Top five

Tobias Otieno also scored twice in their 2-0 win against Mathare United FC, making it a very tight race for the coveted prize.

Sony’s recent run of form has seen them rise up the SPL table to eighth place with 36 points, a walloping 29 points behind runaway leaders Gor Mahia FC.

The club will host former champions; Tusker FC at Awendo Green Stadium this Saturday.Sony’s ambition is to finish the league in top five this season.
