Struggling Mount Kenya Beef Up Squad With Seven New Signings

Head coach Melis Medo who has contracted the little known players from the lower tier sides believes the charges will be up to the task in their bid to survive SPL relegation

NAIROBI, Kenya- Basement side Mt. Kenya United FC have roped in seven new players ahead of the SportPesa Premier League (SPL) second leg that kicks off at various venues across the country on Wednesday afternoon.

Head coach Melis Medo believes the little known footballers he has penned from the lower tiers will help his side to move away from the bottom of the standings where they are battling to avoid relegation.

"I have signed these players after watching them keenly in the trials we held recently. I believe their style will suit our playing culture.

“You know we play attractive football and what we have to do now is to go a step further and get good results,” the American tactician told SportPesa News.

Among the new signings are veteran Ghanaian keeper Mozart Adjetey who has been roped in from Dreams FC and  defenders Norman Werunga and Musa Ali who have decamped from Zetech University FC and Buruburu Sports FC.

Medo has strengthened his attacking force with Leroy Otieno from National Super League side, Kenya Police FC, speedy winger Stephen Kipkirui who has been shipped in from another NSL side St. Joseph's Youth FC and Erick Obukui from Makadara Youth FC.

At the same time, the club has parted ways with eight players including former AFC Leopards SC talisman Samuel Ndung'u who has moved to Kakamega Homeboyz FC. 

Others who have left the club are Lukas Indeche, Paul Okatwa, Boniface Kimani, David Gateri, Marvin Dacha, David Majak and Nigol Mohamed.

"Our new players are young and hungry to make a name in SPL. I believe once they fully adapt to my tactics and philosophy, they will do a good job here," Medo underlined.

Mt. Kenya, who are due to play Sofapaka FC on Wednesday afternoon at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, are at the bottom of the standings with 12 points from 18 games.
