NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Real Monarchs FC defender Joseph Okumu and Cercle Brugge midfielder Johanna Omollo are set to miss Harambee Stars friendly against Uganda Cranes at MISC Kasarani on Sunday.

This has been confirmed by head coach Francis Kimanzi who took 14 local players through light training at the venue on Monday evening.

“Okumu hasn’t yet settled in Sweden where he signed for IF Elfsborg so I will give him time to gel with his new club. Omollo is injured and needs time to heal,” Kimanzi underscored.

Kimanzi admitted the duo are top quality players whose services will be missed.However, he said it also provides good opportunity for the coaching staff to test other players who have been called to the camp.

The former Mathare tactician also revealed that he may be forced to do without the services of captain Victor Wanyama who is yet to report for training.

“I will have a full report on whether Wanyama will be available for the match in the course of the week. If he doesn’t make it on time then I will have to rest him on Sunday,” he said.

“I’m happy that we have hit the camp running. I want the players to take our battle with Uganda seriously as the game will be crucial in our preparations for the upcoming 2021 AFCON Qualifiers against Egypt and Togo,” Kimanzi underlined.

After Uganda, Stars will play another friendly before they face Egypt and Togo in the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers in November.
