NAIROBI, Kenya- Zesco United FC forward Jesse Were was the most notable inclusion into the Harambee Stars team for the Uganda friendly as new head coach Francis Kimanzi named his squad on Thursday morning.

The friendly match will be played on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi.

The squad largely features players who took part in the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt with notable inclusions being Were and Kakamega Homeboyz FC midfielder Moses Mudavadi.

Were’s exclusion from the Africa Cup of Nations squad despite his rapid goal-scoring form for his club, sparked vast debates online and the Kenyan faithful will be pleased to see him back in the team.

Tottenham Hotspur FC midfielder remains captain as Bandari FC’s Nicholas Meja and Boniface Muchiri of 2016 SportPesa Premier League winners Tusker FC also received maiden call-ups to the national team.

Coach Kimanzi has also named 10 players in a reserves list who could be called upon in case of injury to the called up players.

This will be his first game in charge alongside his assistant Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno, who were unveiled as the duo in charge of Harambee Stars on Tuesday morning in Nairobi.

Kimanzi takes over for his second stint as head coach following the resignation of Frenchman Sebastian Migne earlier this month.

Migne was responsible for guiding Kenya to the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations finals in Egypt, after a 15-year hiatus where they could only manage a third-place Group C finish.
