Ngige, Madoya Make Cut In 2019 Magical Kenya Open As Indiza, Snow Falter

The country is being represented by 12 professional and six amateurs in the event that has attracted 144 players from across the world

NAIROBI, Kenya- Simon Ngige of Thika Golf Club and Justus Madoya of Great Rift Valley Lodge Golf Resort are the only local players who made the cut  after round two of 2019 Magical Kenya Open Golf Championship at Karen Golf and Country Club in Nairobi on Friday.

Ngige fired 2-under par 140 while Madoya, who also double as Golf Resort player, had a level-par 142 to earn the feat.

Ngige started his round two on Friday at the 10th tee  where he carded a total of 37 points in the back nine, recording three bogeys in par-5 hole 12, par-3 hole 14 and par-4 hole 15.

He had birdies in par-5, 11th and the par-3, 16th.

He amassed 35 in front nine where he had bogeys in holes one and  seven and  birdies in seven and nine to end the day with a  1-over par 72.

Ngige, who is making his 13th appearance in the competition, has only made the cut in the tournament twice- 2016 and 2017- where he finished 46th and 34th in that order.

Madoya continued with his steady run in the event, matching his Thursday’s scores which left him tied in 39th which was within the cut.

Madoya holed a birdie in the 13th before picking a double bogey in the 15th and a bogey in the 16th to finish with 38 in the back nine.

 He had birdies in the second and sixth in the first nine which he ended with 33.

This is the first time that Madoya, who has had other six previous appearances, is making the cut in the high profile contest.

Safari Tour Golf Series winner, Greg Snow of Muthaiga Golf Club failed to book a berth for the remaining two rounds after he finished with a 1-over par 72 for a total of 3-over par 145.

Others who were not successful include Mumias hard hitter Dismas Indiza, Nelson Simwa, David Wakhu and Samuel Njoroge who was the best placed local amateur in 95th.

At the same time, South Africa's Louis de Jager played a round of 5-under par 66 to top the leader board, with a total score of 12-under par. 

"My game plan is not to be aggressive. The most important thing is hitting the fairways and combing the greens because the greens with consistency. If you fire well on the greens then you have  a good chance to score a birdie,” Jager underlined.
