NAIROBI, Kenya- Nairobi County Women Representative, Esther Passaris has promised to buy 1000 VIP tickets worth KSh100,000 for fans to attend the landmark Kariobangi Sharks FC versus Everton FC international friendly.

The eagerly-awaited showdown will be played at the MISC, Kasarani Stadium on July 7 with anticipation building in the run up to the first ever tour of an English Premier League (EPL) side to Kenya.

Sharks, the 2017 SportPesa Shield winners, booked a dream date with the nine-time English League champions and 1995 FA Cup titleholders when they silenced local rivals, Bandari FC 1-0 on Janurary 27 this year to lift the annual regional invitational tournament SportPesa Cup honours in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.

Match organisers, technology and business firm, SportPesa in conjunction with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced VIP tickets had gone on sale online last week, retailing at KSh1000 whilst regular sitting at the 60,000-seater grand sporting facility will cost KSh100 where they will be available for supporters from July 1, six days to one of the biggest dates in local football history.

Speaking at local radio station, Milele FM breakfast show on Tuesday, Passaris hailed the fixture as a rare opportunity to showcase her football to the world, urging the youth to turn up in large numbers at Kasarani to witness what is billed to be an unforgettable milestone in local football.

"When I leave the studio, I will go to buy my tickets worth at least for KSh100,000 to have my constituents fill the VIP because I know they will tell me not to go there alone. I'm not so much into the football thing but that is one match watu wanafaa wakuje (fans should come)," Passaris said.

She hailed the decision for the organisers to peg regular seating at KSh100 saying it was within the means of local youth while urging them to save for the big day.

"Vijana tafadhali, let's just panga from now (fans, please let's starts planning from now)," she added with a touch of local slang before declaring, "It's a very big opportunity, dunia mzima itakuwa inaangalia Kenya kitu cha kwanza (first, the world will be looking at Kenya), secondly, the boys will have a chance to display their talent."

The social entrepreneur, philanthropist and politician who is serving her first term in the National Assembly noted the world had seen the best and worst of Kenyan sporting talent and the youth should turn for Sharks game that will mark the first official pre-season friendly for Everton in force to give their local stars the motivation they need to shine against one of Europe's most respected teams.

"I'm buying VIP because I work with a lot of youth from the entire Nairobi County who have been calling me asking mathee (mother) we want to go to the game, give us something (money) so that we get in. I know those who love football and I will book 100 tickets for the young fans early for their love of the game," she stressed when pressed to confirm her pledge.

Biggest gathering

The VIP tickets VIP have been available on www.mookh.com from June 4 to match day depending on availability. If tickets will not have been sold out by match day, then sales will continue online with only 5,000 VIP tickets made available for the match.

Regular tickets will be available to supporters at selected SportPesa Kiosks in the Central Business District from July 1 to match day again subject to availability.

Organisers have printed 55,000 regular tickets that will be sold at the following SportPesa kiosks; 680 Hotel, Opposite New Stanley, City Market, Muindi Mbingu Street, Tuskys Beba Beba, Kencom City Hall Way, Jevanjee, Moi Avenue - opposite Ambassaduer, Haile Selassie (Bomb Blast Memorial), Kenyatta Avenue GPO, Kenya Cinema, Moi Avenue, Galitos, Kenya Towers, Uchumi, Aga Khan Walk and Kimathi Street, Nanak House (opposite Tribeca) within the Nairobi Central Business District.

The prized entry passes will also be sold at the TRM Mall along Thika Road with Big Brother Ticketing (regular ticket vendors) stating they will be available at the 13 SportPesa kiosks, but will serve all the 41 kiosks in the CBD. 

On match day, VIP ticket holders will access the stadium through Gate 6 while those with regular and have vehicles through Gates 10 and 11. Pedestrians with regular tickets will enter Kasarani through Gate 12.

At the same time, Sharks who wrapped their 2018/19 season by surrendering their Shield crown to Bandari on June 1 and 2, resumed training on Monday to prepare for their encounter against Everton.

Head coach William Muluya and his side returned from the post-season break early to ensure they are at their best when the Manager Marco Silva and the Blues come calling in Nairobi on their second tour to East Africa following their acclaimed visit to Tanzania two years ago where they beat SPL champions Gor Mahia FC 2-1 at the National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam.

The SportPesa Cup holders who knocked out Dar giants, Yanga SC 3-2 in the quarters before out-shooting plucky Tanzanian surprise package Mbao FC 6-5 on penalties after a marathon shootout in the semis, are seeking to make a huge statement after they could only muster a ninth finish in the just concluded SPL.

On May 13 last year, Kasarani was packed to its rafters in what was acclaimed as the biggest gathering since 1997 when Gor played to a 0-0 draw with English Championship side Hull City Tigers FC before the visitors edged the ensuing shootout 4-3 in an occasion that went down in domestic football folk role.
