BAMAKO (Mali) – Kenya Morans rallied from behind to beat Tunisia 82-76 to sail into the semifinals of the ongoing 2019 FIBA AfroCan Basketball Championships in Mali, Bamako on Thursday morning.

Tunisia led 20-19 and 16- 14 in the opening and second quarters before Morans put their house in order to gain foothold in the encounter.

Kenya resumed the game strong after the breather to win the third quarter 10-20 before slumping 22-15 in the fourth, however this had no effect as the game was pushed to overtime which Morans won 8-14, courtesy of Griffins Ligare, Bush Wamukota and Erick Mutoro who had 22, 21 and 14 points in that order.

Kenya is poised to meet Morocco in the semis on Thursday night.

Star-player Tylor Ongwae who features for Denmark based Bakken Bears has described the AfroCan Championship as a blessing to the Morans.

"The tournament is a good initiative as it help to improve standard of the leagues across the continent,” the 28-year old underlined.

The victory saw Kenyans took to the social media to congratulate the team for the good run in the championships so far.

“This is the best defensive team in the Afrocan. Our defense will win us this championship,” Oscar Abuya wrote on the Kenya Basketball Federation Facebook page.

“We are pleased with the victory, may our national anthem continue to be played in Bamako till the last day,” Dennis Opiyo Dikembe, a former Kenya International, underlined.
