BAMAKO (Mali) – Kenya Morans rallied from behind to edge The Elephants of Ivory Coast 85-83 to sail into the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2019 FIBA AfroCan Basketball Championships in Mali, Bamako on Wednesday morning.

Morans were powered to victory by Denmark based Tylor Ongwae Okari who beat the buzzer with a two pointer to realise the win.

The Bakken Bears forward also notched 24 points in the encounter to finish the contest with a game high.


Kenya will meet Tunisia in the quarters on Wednesday night at the Palais Des Sports Salamatou Maiga Arena where the tournament is being held.

Other sides that secured tickets to the last eight in the night were Morocco, Algeria and Chad who will be joining undefeated quartet of Mali (2-0), Angola (2-0) and DR Congo (2-0).

Algeria advanced to the last eight thanks to an 84-80 win over Nigeria while Chad upset Egypt 98-95.

“It's been five days since the start of the 12-nation tournament, and, so far, fans attending games at Salamatou Maiga Palace des Sports Arena and those following on our social media have witnessed some breathtaking matches,” FIBA stated in their website.

“My prayer today is that this current national team successful run will grow the fan base more and more within Kenya for our local leagues and that the current players will attract the right partnerships with corporate entities who will invest in the growth of this beautiful game,” Byron Belle underlined after the Morans victory.
