Kasumba Late Penalty Lifts Sofapaka Over KCB, Zoo Shoot Rangers

Sofapaka were awarded a stoppage time penalty which was successfully converted by Umar Kasumba to give his side the victory

  • Rangers will play  2019 SportPesa Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks FC at Machakos on Saturday  while  Zoo will travel to Bukhungu in Kakamega where they will tackle Vihiga United FC

MACHAKOS, Kenya- Sofapaka FC edged Kenya Commercial Bank FC 1-0 in a SportPesa Premier League match staged at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday to move to fourth place in the standings.

At the same time, Zoo FC beat Posta Rangers FC with a similar margin at Green Stadium in Kericho to pull away from the relegation zone.

Sofapaka were awarded a stoppage time penalty which was successfully converted by Umar Kasumba to give his side the win.

Following the victory, the Batoto Ba Mungu moved to fourth with 27 points while KCB are 12th with 16.

“It was not our day, the match was really tough with equal chances for both sides. I think luck was on our side as our opponents put a good show in the clash,” Sofapaka tactician , John Baraza, admitted.

KCB assistant coach, Sammy ‘ Pamzo’ Omollo rued their missed opportunities in the  game saying: “ We had opened chances in both halves but we were hitting wide and over the bar.

“We played well and controlled the match, we were superior tactically but failed to find the back of the net.”

“We are going to sharpen our forward in training next week so we do not repeat the blatant mistakes we did today,” Omollo added.

The win moved Zoo to 13th where they are at 15 a piece with Rangers who are in 14th.

Rangers will play  2019 SportPesa Cup champions Kariobangi Sharks FC in their next fixture at Machakos on Saturday  while  Zoo will travel to Bukhungu in Kakamega where they will tackle Vihiga United FC.

Likewise, Sofapaka will be on the road to Chemelil Sugar FC on Saturday as KCB entertain Nzoia Sugar FC at Ruaraka the following day.
