MACHAKOS, Kenya- Marcel Kaheza was the hero for struggling giants AFC Leopards SC when his late, late strike inspired the 12-time domestic league winners to a 2-1 victory over Western Stima FC in a SportPesa Premier League (SPL) clash at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Saturday afternoon.

At the same time, Bandari FC wasted another opportunity to go top of the standings when they were held to a barren draw by Chemelil Sugar FC at the Chemelil Sports Complex.

The results saw Leopards (19) vacate the dreaded relegation zone to perch in 13th place as beaten Stima (26) remained seventh while the Dockers (33) are now up to second a point above champions Gor Mahia FC who are not in action this weekend.

In Machakos, Tanzania winger Kaheza who is loan from Dar giants Simba SC scored deep into added time for his second goal in successive matches to grab all three points for Leopards who won for the first time in three outings to complete a come-from-behind victory after going down 0-1 to a first half Stima strike from Wesley Kemboi.

Decisive moment

Vincent Oburu hauled Ingwe level immediately after the restart much to the relief of Andre Cassa Mbungo's side before Kaheza made Stima pay for spurning a first half penalty from Kennedy Agogo when he produced the most decisive moment with only seconds left of the contest.

Bandari, who were coming off two successive loses in the SPL could not make their superiority count as they shared the spoils with Chemelil (18) who inched up a place to 15th in the standings.

On Sunday, Posta Rangers FC and KCB FC clash in Machakos in the only league fixture on the cards after the match featuring Gor and Ulinzi Stars FC at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru was deferred.

Victory for Rangers (16) could move them above Leopards on goal-difference while the bankers (19) could end the weekend inside the top 10 with a win of their own.
