Here's The Lucky Couple That Won Mashemeji Derby Valentines' Getaway

NAIROBI, Kenya- Walter Kisanya, 29, and Dorcas Odhiambo, 27,  are the lucky couple who will enjoy a special valentine edition, courtesy of global gaming firm, SportPesa.

This was after their  photo, taken on Saturday during the 85th Mashemeji Derby at MISC Kasarani in Nairobi and entered in a draw for the chance to win a memorable Valentine’s romantic night in Nairobi, was overwhelmingly voted by fans online.

The two were not aware that they had won the coveted ticket until they were informed by friends and relatives who kept abreast with the competition on social media.

“I received a call from my brother Chris on Friday morning informing me that our picture was way a head in the voting, that’s when I decided to go online to confirm. I’m shocked as I have never won even a biro pen in my life,” Kisanya  underlined.

Odhiambo too was equally surprised as she has never won in the many contests she has taken part in.

“I have never been lucky in life, that’s why I rarely take part in competitions  where luck plays a huge role,” Odhiambo, who is a designer by profession, underlined.

“This is really amazing. I have no words to express my feeling and joy,” she added.

The pair’s love life started on May 1, 2018 during the Hull City Mashemeji Derby Challenge at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

Odhiambo, who has been  a staunch Gor Mahia FC supporter since childhood, had traveled to the Lakeside City to support K’Ogalo on the day.

The stadium was already full to the brim when she arrived. She decided to look around for a space to settle but there were no seats available.

Kisanya, who had comfortably sat on the Leopards side to cheer Ingwe saw her and decided to offer her space but Odhiambo was hesitant to take it.

She was not sure how the legion of Leopards supporters would react when she joined them in a K’Ogalo jersey.

“I had no option as the scorching overhead sun was taking toll on me, I was also tired after the long journey to Nakuru. 

“I decided to sit next to him, we chatted during the game and one thing led to another, before we knew it we were a husband and a wife three months later,” says Odhiambo.

Following their first meet in Nakuru, Kisanya and Odhiambo have never missed any of the Mashemeji Derby and they are happy that lady luck smiled on them again this week. 

To the lovebirds, winning the ticket is a perfect way to rekindle their young love which was flamed  in Nakuru and so they can not wait to be whisked away to an exclusive getaway that includes dinner, breakfast and lunch on Saturday (February 16) for a Valentines to remember.

“We prefer a cool night with flowing red wine and soft rumba music in the background, we are looking forward for the day. We are already in the mood,” Odhiambo said with glee.
