NAIROBI, Kenya- SportPesa FC gave Bunge FC a run for their money on Thursday evening at Moi International Sports Center Kasarani in Nairobi before surrendering to a narrow 5-4 reverse after extra time in a nine goal thriller. 

The sides had battled to a 4-4 draw in regulation before Ken Angwa scored for the law makers the winning goal in the cutthroat extra time.

The parliamentarians took an early 3-0 lead in the first half, finding the back of the net through Salim Mugambi, Angwa and Kipchumba Murkomen before Julius Ouko pulled one back for the hosts to narrow the gap 3-1 at half time.

SportPesa were aggressive on resumption and this paid off with three goals courtesy of Alex Kinyua, Kelvin Maina and Andrew Longilai (penalty) which saw them take a 4-3 lead but this was short lived as the visitors were also awarded a penalty in the dying minutes which was notched by Murkomen to level the scores 4-4  before the whistle.

“Bunge FC have surprised me, I didn’t know they could play football like this. We will hold a rematch to confirm their prowess,” SportPesa CEO Ronald Karauri underlined.

“The most important thing about this event is networking, let us all look forward to further the relationship we have started today,” he added.

SportPesa Chief Marketing Officer, Kelvin Twissa, thanked Bunge for taking part in the match saying there will be more engagements by both sides from now onward.

SportPesa FC was formed in late 2017 with a mission to keep staff members active and healthy through sports.
