NAIROBI, Kenya- Record Kenyan Premier League (KPL) winners Gor Mahia FC are seeking to hop back into the top three of the highly competitive log with a win against basement club Chemelil Sugar FC.

The match will kick off at 3pm on Wednesday at the Kericho Green Stadium.

Gor, who are in fourth place with 32 points, are coming off a shock 2-1 defeat at the hands of Kakamega Homeboyz FC and need to register a win if they are to keep hopes alive of winning a third straight title.

The win saw Homeboyz leapfrog Gor and third-place Ulinzi Stars FC into second place with 36 points, one adrift of league leaders Tusker FC.

The loss was only the second for 18-time league winners Gor Mahia after the appointment of Coach Steven Polack, who took over at the start of the season following the resignation of Hassan Oktay.

“We did not deserve to lose against Homeboyz and if you ask me, a draw could have been a fair result.

“But again what can you do if your player commits a mistake which gives them a second goal? It was a blunder that gifted them the second goal and we could not recover.

“I must admit we lost free and fair and I have no complaint to make, we must now dust ourselves up and look ahead to the next league match,” Polack stated after the loss at the Bukhungu Stadium.

Chemelil on the other hand remain at the foot of the table with a dismal four points after recently battling to their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Nzoia Sugar FC.

The sugar millers have four points and will need a miracle if they are to bounce back from a 3-0 humiliation at the hands of Kenya Commercial Bank FC (KCB) against the champions.

Their latest signing, National Super League (NSL) leading scorer Clinton Okoth from Migori Youth FC, will boost Gor Mahia ahead of the fixture.

Okoth, 19, was on the radar of a host of other KPL clubs notably KCB, Tusker, AFC Leopards and Kariobangi Sharks after topping the NSL scoring charts with 14 goals in the first leg but it's Gor who have secured his services on a one-year loan deal.
