Gor Mahia boss Johnathan McKinstry has revealed why new signings Musa Masika and Enock Wanyama have not yet made their official debuts for the record Kenyan champions.

The attacking duo were snapped up in the mid-season transfer window that closed on February 8 with Masika, Ayub Timbe’s younger brother, joining K’Ogalo after his stint at KCB while Wanyama returned to the Football Kenya Federation Premier League from Taiwan’s Leopard Cat FC.

Speaking after the barren draw against Ulinzi Stars, McKinstry revealed why the two players, who are expected to challenge for places in the first eleven, have not gotten any action since signing.

For Musa Masika, it is just about conditioning. The last time he started a football match was on 1 October 2023 and that was against K’Ogalo.

He has only been in two matchday squads since then so match fitness is way off and we knew it would take him a few weeks. He has been involved in a couple of friendlies to try and up his match fitness levels,” the Northern Irishman disclosed.

“Enock Wanyama has come from a league that is less intense than this. Yes, he has been in Kenyan football before, but the Taiwanese league is nowhere near as intense or as physical as this.

He is probably closer to being in the matchday squad than Musa definitely and in the next week or so he will get his opportunity,” McKinstry noted.

The head coach also added that Ugandan striker Patrick Kaddu is nearing full recovery having sustained a hamstring injury and should be ready to play by the time they play in the FKF Cup.

“Kaddu is getting there, he started doing double sessions this week in terms of strengthening the hamstring. Our target for him after he tweaked it was for the cup next week and is on target for that,” he said.
