NAIROBI, Kenya- AFC Leopards SC interim Coach Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani believes that the title race is still wide open despite his side falling to a 1-0 defeat away to Tusker FC on Sunday.

Kimani took charge after Rwandese tactician Andre Casa Mbungo resigned from his post and Leopards have seen witnessed a massive improvement in the domestic top flight.

Kimani’s side came into the game buzzing with confidence after halting Ulinzi Stars FC 16-match unbeaten streak but it just was not to be for them on the day.

“The title race is far from over, the nature of football is things can change so quickly because the top teams can drop points, and we are not ready to give up,”

“We all know the 10-point gap is something that can easily be breached and we will do the same and keep winning our matches and get maximum points from our matches,” the former Kenyan international stated.

Timothy Otieno scored the lone goal to gift Tusker all three points and move them to second on the Kenya Premier Legaue (KPL) table with 41 points, three shy of leaders Gor Mahia FC.

Leopards on the other hand are in sixth place with 34 points after 20 games.

“We were well prepared for the job and had a good 45 minutes and I feel that is when we should have seized our moment and put ourselves in the driving position.

“But we did not, they got a chance and used to score the winner and it was very difficult for our boys to pick themselves up and get an equalizer,” Kimani added.

The young manager has however refused to give up the chase for a first title for the club in 21 years, having last won it in 1998.

They face an uphill task in their next fixture against a Sofapaka FC side that is reeling from a rare victory over record league winners Gor.

“Going forward again we are going to try and ensure our boys remain calm especially in the attacking third because I feel that is what we were lacking in the first half, that composure was lacking and that is why we could not get the cutting edge to ensure at least we get a goal.

“I am very impressed with the boys, they gave all and they tried to push but nothing went their way,” the former Mathare United FC defender concluded.
