NAIROBI, Kenya- Tusker FC forward Timothy Otieno stated his intent to win the Kenya Premier League (KPL) Golden Boot Award after receiving the November LG/Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) player award.

The free scoring striker beat Ulinzi Stars FC forward Oscar Wamalwa and Sofapaka FC’s Brian Nyakan to the coveted crown, which comes with a handsome KSHs 100,000 cheque and 49-inch television set.

Otieno scored five times in November to stand out among the final three shortlisted for the crown to become just the third player to win the crown more than once.

He last won it during his time at Posta Rangers four years ago.

“I knew the award was not far off because of the kind of run the team has had and credit to my teammates for helping me get this recognition,” an elated Otieno said at the team’s training grounds in Ruaraka.

He bagged a brace against Nzoia Sugar FC before getting on the score sheet each time he came up against Kenya Commercial Bank FC (KCB), Western Stima FC and his former employers Posta.

He now wants to score at least eight more goals in the remaining 16 league games to hit a target set at the beginning of the season.

“That month got me called up to the national team and I want to keep scoring to maintain my stay with Harambee Stars and help Kenya achieve something special.

“I also aspire to lay my hands on the golden boot. It has been my dream and I have tried to win it in the past but it looks feasible this season with the entire team firing on all cylinders. They can really help me win it,” Otieno concluded.

Otieno is second on the goal scoring charts, trailing only AFC Leopards SC John Mark Makwatta by two goals.
