NAIROBI, Kenya- Record Kenyan Premier League (KPL) winners Gor Mahia FC saw their quest to win an unprecedented 19th title suffer a huge blow as they were stunned 2-1 by Kakamega Homeboyz FC on Sunday.

The defeat saw Steve Pollack’s charges drop to fourth on the league table with 32 points, five adrift of leaders Tusker FC, but remain with three games in hand.

Gor, who were out of action during last week’s midweek action, went into the game as favorites but Shami Kibwana got Homeboyz off to the perfect start with a 21st minute goal.

Former Zoo FC striker Nicholas Kipkirui grabbed an equalizer in the 43rd minute to get Gor back into the game by the halftime break.

Ali Bhai was the hero on the day as his 68th minute effort was enough to seal a famous victory for Homeboyz who retained second place with 36 points after a seven-game unbeaten streak.

Tusker seem to be on course to challenge for a first league title since 2016 and further stated their intentions with a 2-1 comeback victory over Bandari FC.

Wycliffe Ochomo gave the dockers an early lead in the 26th minute from the penalty spot but their wretched form continued as Tusker fought back in the second half.

Hashim Sempala scored the equalizing goal before new signing Brian Marita marked his debut for the brewers with a 96th minute winner to keep them in charge of the table.

AFC Leopards SC bounced back from the shock loss to Posta Rangers FC with a comfortable 2-0 win over moneybags Wazito FC.

John Mark Makwatta stretched his lead at the top of the KPL top scorers chart with his third brace of the season to take his tally to 15 for the season since joining Leopards at the start of the season.

The win leaves Anthony ‘Modo’ Kimani’s charges in seventh place with 28 points, 17 ahead of lowly Wazito who have lost six games in a row despite being very active in the January transfer window.

League’s best Ulinzi Stars FC extended their unbeaten record to 15 games with an enthralling 3-2 victory against Western Stima FC.

Okiniy, Michael Otieno and John Kago were the scorers for the soldiers who moved up to third on the standings ahead of a lengthy break that will see them resume league duty on February 9 against Tusker.

It was Mathare United FC who came out smiling after the Slum Derby on Sunday as Kevin Kimani and Daniel Otieno’s goals gifted them a 2-1 win against struggling Kariobangi Sharks FC.

Mathare remain in 10th with 24 points, 11 ahead of their opponents who are just two places lower in 12th.

Fifth-place KCB continued their fine form with a cool 3-0 victory over bottom club Chemelil Sugar FC whilst Sofapaka FC condemned ten-man Nzoia Sugar FC to a sixth straight loss, hammering them 4-1 in Machakos.
