Barcelona's 15-match La Liga unbeaten run was halted in a shock 1-0 defeat to relegation-threatened Cadiz at the Camp Nou on Monday night.

Lucas Perez scored the only goal of the game just after halftime to lift Cadiz out of the drop zone and into 16th place with 31 points.

Xavi Hernandez' Barca had not lost a league game since December 4 when they lost by the same margin at home to Real Betis.

The defeat leaves them in second place on the standings with 60 points, 15 behind leaders Real Madrid who all but secured the title after a comeback 3-2 win against Sevilla.

Barca are now level on points with Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, while only five points separate them from Real Sociedad in sixth place.

Real Madrid therefore need just seven points from their final six fixtures to guarantee becoming champions of Spain for a record-extending 35th time.

There were almost 42,000 empty seats at the Camp Nou as Barcelona suffered a second consecutive home defeat after Eintracht Frankfurt knocked them out of the Europa League.

January's Premier League signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore were left out of the starting XI but even their inclusion could not rescue a point for the hosts.

Their next outing is a tricky test against sixth-place Real Sociedad on Thursday night.
