Sadio Mane was at it again as he converted a shoot-out penalty on Tuesday to take African champions Senegal to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar at the expense of Egypt.

Senegal won the second leg of the African play-off 1-0 thanks to a fourth-minute goal from Boulaye Dia and the teams finished level at 1-1 on aggregate after extra time.

As was the case in the Africa Cup of Nations final last month, Mane was entrusted with taking the crucial fifth Senegal kick and once again he made no mistake to give his side a 3-1 victory in the shoot-out.

His Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah was unlucky as he missed the opening penalty in the shootout as he saw his side miss out on qualifying for a fourth World Cup.

Elsewhere, Cameroon staged a late comeback to edge out Algeria on away goals and grab final Qatar FIFA World Cup slot for Africa.

Toko Ekambi was the hero for Cameroon, scoring late in the dying minutes to see the Indomitable Lions beat Algeria 2-1 in the return leg finishing 2-2 on aggregate.

Cameroon now joins Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal and Ghana in representing the continent at the December FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put eight-time qualifiers Cameroon ahead in the 22nd minute and they retained the lead until the 118th minute when Ahmed Touba equalised in the second leg of a play-off.

But with Algeria leading 2-1 on aggregate having won the first leg 1-0 last Friday, and seemingly set for Qatar, Toko Ekambi struck.

Algeria coach Djamel Belmadi slumped to his knees and covered his face with his hands and stayed like that for minutes as officials tried to console him.

It was another hard blow for Algeria after it was dumped out of the African Cup in the group stage two months ago to end the defense of its title.
