The SportPesa Foundation's efforts to improve the state of maternal healthcare in the nation continued as they took their initiative to Kakamega County.

Malava Sub County Hospital and Shibwe Hospital were the latest beneficiaries of equipment to ensure that they have proper structures in place for the cause.

Malava is the second busiest institution in Kakamega County and currently records around 300 deliveries a month.

"There have been horrible instances that has caused death to mothers in the past and I am glad we are on course to ensure this does not happen again.

"The donation is very timely and this will go a long way to supplement both county government and others as we transform the state of maternal healthcare in the county,"  Collins Matemba CECM Health Kakamega County stated.

The hospital received medical stretchers, wheel chairs, nebulizers, weighing scales, bedside lockers, medical trolleys among other equipment delivered by the foundation.

Matemba went ahead to urge the hospital officials to make proper use of the equipment donated to them as they continue to take steps toward a brighter system of maternal health in the region.

"This donation boosts our efforts to improve the health in the county and we are very grateful for such a kind gesture from the SportPesa Foundation," Dr. Mohamed Munyendo, Malava County Hospital Medical Superintendent added.

Last year, SportPesa Foundation donated equipment to several public and mission hospitals in seven counties across the nation.

Homabay, Narok, Kiambu, Meru, Nairobi, Bomet, Tharaka Nithi and Kilifi were the counties that have benefitted from the noble initiative thus far.

"From March last year we took a different route and decided to offer our support to the maternal healthcare in the country.

"There has been a gap and we know the importance of proper maternal institutions, thus choosing to do this to continue to develop the nation," SportPesa Foundation's Project Lead Esther Kang'ethe concluded.
