NAIROBI, Kenya- Sofapaka
FC got their revenge against champions Gor Mahia FC as they rose to the occasion
with a 3-1 victory at the Narok County Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Gor had previously beaten Batoto Ba Mungu 2-1 a fortnight
ago but this was just not meant to be their day as they fell to their third
defeat of the season.
The defeat does not move them from the top of the table, as
they remain on course for a fourth successive Kenya Premier League (KPL) title
with 44 points.
Nigerian import Promise Chinonso bagged a brace, which started
off with a goal in the opening minute of the game and Samuel Onynago’s leveler
could not do much for Gor.
Another Nigerian, Ikekhai Sunday, scored an 83rd minute
screamer which rattled the back of the Gor net and secured all three points for
Sofapaka, who are in eighth place with 30 points.
A point behind John Baraza’s charges are Mathare United FC,
who also beat Zoo FC by the same score line courtesy of a Kevin Kimani double
either side of a James Kinyanjui goal.
Collins Neto scored for Zoo from the spot but that was all
they had to show for it as the defeat leaves them in 14th place with 15 points,
still without a win in eight matches.
Wazito FC were undoubtedly the biggest winners of the day as
they snapped an eight-game winless streak with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over
Western Stima FC.
New signing Augustine Out from Liberia and midfielder Musa
Masika were on hand to score both goals for Stewart Hall’s side who moved into 13th
place on the log with 15 points after 20 games.
Stima on the other hand have not won a game in their last
four and drop to seventh place with 31 points.
Another shocking and much needed win came from Chemelil
Sugar FC, who won only their second game of the season, beating Posta Rangers
FC 2-1 on Saturday.
The win lifted Chemelil from the bottom of the table for the
first time since Sony Sugar FC were expelled from the KPL.
Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo’s Posta remain in 10th with 29 points
from 20 games.
Kakamega Homeboyz FC failed to make the most of Gor’s loss
to Sofapaka as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Bandari FC at the Mbaraki
Stadium.
The dockers have not won in their last five matches and
remain in 11th place with 20 points.
Nzoia Sugar FC also bagged a valuable point on the day as they
battled to a 1-1 draw against high-flying Ulinzi Stars FC to move to a total of
12 points.
Ulinzi remain in fifth but risk losing that spot to a
resurgent AFC Leopards SC side who take on Tusker FC later on Sunday.
