Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to retire after 2024 Paris Olympic Games

The 37-year-old announced her retirement on Thursday night after an interview with American Magazine Essence.
- Fraser-Pryce has so far managed 10 World Athletics Championships Gold medals, three Olympic Games gold medals as well as a similar number of silver medals.
- Fraser-Pryce was crowned the 100m world champion in 2009, 2013, 2015, 2019 and the 2022 edition which was held in Oregon, USA.
- The Jamaican is set to compete for the final time at the eagerly anticipated Paris Olympics which is scheduled to take place between Friday, July 26 and Sunday August, 11.
Jamaican sprint sensation Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is
expected to hung her spikes after the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The 37-year-old announced her retirement on Thursday night,
February 8, 2024 after an interview with American Magazine Essence.
“My son needs me. My husband and I have been together since
before I won in 2008. He has sacrificed for me. We are a partnership, a team.
It is because of that support that I am able to do the
things that I have been doing for all these years. And I think I now owe it to
them to do something else,” she noted.

Fraser-Pryce, who has graced the Kip Keino Classic twice,
further stated that she wants to end her trophy-laden career the way she wants.
“I want to finish on my own terms,” she added. “There is not
a day I am getting up to go practice and I am like I am over this," she noted.
Fraser-Pryce has so far managed 10 World Athletics

Fraser-Pryce was crowned the 100m world champion in 2009,
2013, 2015, 2019 and the 2022 edition which was held in Oregon, USA.
She also won a 200m gold medal in 2023 and four 4x100m relay
titles at the 2009, 2013, 2019 and 2015 world championships.

The five-time Diamond League winner’s Olympic Games gold
medals came at the 2008, 2012 and the delayed 2020 Tokyo edition. She also has
four Olympic Games silver medals to her name.
Fraser-Pryce is set to compete for the final time at the
eagerly anticipated Paris Olympics which is scheduled to take place between Friday,
July 26 and Sunday August, 11.
In Paris, she will battle it out for glory with the likes of
the reigning world champion Sha’Carri Richardson who hails from the United
States.
Finally, it is not yet confirmed whether the legendary sprinter will compete at this year’s Kip Keino Classic slated for April.
