KAKAMEGA, Kenya- AFC Leopards got their first victory of the season by edging newly promoted Wazito FC 1-0 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Saturday.

The sides battled to a barren draw in the opening half before new signing John Mark Makwata broke the deadlock with a slotted spot kick to give Leopards a 1-0 lead in the 76th minute.

The win moved Leopards to eighth on the table while Wazito dropped to 14th.

Leopards, who lost 1-0 to Kakamega Homeboyz in their season opener at the venue before registering a barren draw against SportPesa Shield holders Kariobangi Sharks in the second round, will be up in arms against Chemelil Sugar FC next Sunday. 

Just like Leopards, Mathare United FC got their first season win by beating Ulinzi Stars FC 2-1 at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.

The sides also played to a barren draw in the opening half before George Owino found the back of the net for the Slum Boys in the 49th.

Daniel Waweru levelled 1-1 for the soldiers in the 74th but this was short-lived as Mathare stretched their tally to 2-1 in the 88th through Clifford Alwanga to seal the victory.

The win propelled Mathare to the top of the table ahead of their Slum Derby against Sharks next Saturday.

After being stunned 2-1 last weekend in the Sugar Derby against Sony, Nzoia FC returned a rejuvenated lot in their encounter with newcomers Kisumu All-Stars FC, beating the latter 2-0 at Moi Stadium to bag all the points that moved them to the third.

The loss condemned Kisumu to the base of the chart where they are fighting relegation alongside former champions Tusker FC and Chemelil FC.
