Kenya failed to pick all three points in their second 2022 World Cup Qualifier as they played out to a 1-1 draw against Rwanda at the Stade Nyamirambo in Kigali on Sunday.

Harambee Stars were desperate for a win after being held to a goalless draw by Uganda last week at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.

It was not to be as Abdul Rwatubyaye’s lucky effort in the 21st minute was enough to salvage a point for the Rwandese, who sit at the bottom of Group E with 1 point.

Captain Michael Olunga had opened the scoring for the visitors in the 10th minute but a lack of chances throughout the encounter made it impossible to get another goal.

Both teams remain winless after two matches and have a mountain to climb if they are to challenge for a place in the third round of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar.

The result leaves Jacob Mulee's charges in second place with 2 points, one behind leaders Mali who take on Uganda in Entebbe later on Monday.

Kenya will face Mali in home and away fixtures in the next international window while Rwanda continue their qualifying quest with back-to-back matches against Uganda in October.
