Saudi Arabia pulled off the greatest upset so far at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup with a shock 2-1 comeback victory against favorites Argentina on Tuesday.

Saudi, who are ranked 51st in the world, will forever live to remember this win as it is definitely one of the biggest upsets in World Cup history.

Argentina came into the game on a remarkable 36-game unbeaten streak, with their last defeat dating back to July 3, 2019, a 2-0 loss to Brazil.

Lionel Messi got Argentina off to a perfect start in the 10th minute with a goal from the penalty spot and it looked like it was going to be smooth sailing from then on.

Argentina continued to pile the pressure on Saudi and were unfortunate to see a lovely chipped goal from Lautaro Martinez ruled out for offside just before the half hour mark.

They held on to the lead until the half-time break and nobody could have predicted that there was a comeback loading to stun the World Cup favorites.

Saudi Arabia flipped the game on its head in a stunning 10-minute period after half-time, Saleh Al-Shehri levelling with a low effort and Salem Al Dawsari firing them ahead to send the crowd into delirium.

This was most definitely Argentina's easiest game on paper in Group C, with matches against Mexico and Poland left to play.

Argentina could only make it until the round of 16 in the 2018 World Cup and suffered a 4-3 defeat at the hands of eventual winners France.

They now have it all to do to keep alive their hopes of a first global triumph since 1986 and give Messi a fitting ending to what is very likely his World Cup finale.

They will go up against Mexico in a must-win game on Saturday, while Saudi will take on Poland brimming confidence from what is the biggest win in their history.
