RedBull's Max Verstappen won the Mexico Grand Prix comfortably on Sunday to stretch his lead at the top of the Formula One driver standings.

The victory saw Verstappen open up a 19 point gap between him and Lewis Hamilton, who finished second to bring his total tally to 293.5 points.

The other RedBull of Sergio Perez took the last podium spot with a third-place finish in his home GP at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez.

"It's still a long way to go but it's of course looking good, but also it can turn around very quickly," the 24-year old Dutch driver stated.

Verstappen took the chequered flag 16.555 seconds clear of Hamilton to seal his ninth victory of the season, third in Mexico and 19th of his career.

Lewis' teammate Valtteri Bottas began the race on pole but after a crazy incident in the first turn he dropped 17 places and only had to settle for a 15th place finish.

Bottas however got a point as he cruised to take home the fastest lap of the race.

AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly was fourth with Ferrari duo Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz fifth and sixth to lift the Italian team ahead of McLaren and into third place in the constructors' standings.

There are only 4 races left in the 2021 calendar with the drivers back at it in a weeks time at the Brazilian GP on Sunday, November 14.
