Manchester United sealed their spot in the English Premier League top 4 with an emphatic win against Chelsea on Thursday night.

United broke the cycle of repetitive draws against Chelsea with a convincing 4-1 victory at Old Trafford.

The win lifted Erik Ten Hag’s side into third place on the EPL table with 72 points, two more than Newcastle in fourth.

Casemiro opened the scoring for Man United and a late Anthony Martial goal saw them complete the first half with an enviable 2-0 lead.

Despite Chelsea stringing together some good passages of play in the first half, they were unable to make any chances count and had to go into the break trailing their rivals.

Brazilian forward Antony was stretchered off after sustaining an injury and was replaced by United’s top scorer this season Marcus Rashford.

In the second half, Bruno Fernandes gave United an unassailable lead from the penalty spot before Rashford got in on the action to make it 4-0.

Chelsea substitute Joao Felix got the consolation goal with a minute left in the match but it was too little too late for Frank Lampard’s charges.

The defeat leaves Chelsea in 12th place with 43 points and could finish the season as low as 14th, to mark their worst finish in the English top flight in a quarter century.
