Luton Town will play in the English Premier League for the first time next season after an enthralling victory against Coventry City in the Championship Playoff final.

Fankaty Dabo skied his penalty to gift Luton a 6-5 shootout win in the most expensive football match at Wembley.

The Hatters converted all their penalties to ensure that they will feature in the English top flight after a 31-year hiatus.

Jordan Clark had set Luton on their way with a well taken first half goal but Gustavo Hamer canceled it out in the second half as the game ended 1-1 at the 90.

The contest looked to be drifting towards a penalty shootout until a few minutes before the end when Joe Taylor seized upon a Jonathan Panzo error and finished past Wilson.

Panzo lifted his shirt over his face in anguish but was let off the hook after replays showed that the ball had rebounded off Taylor’s hand.

Sadly their captain Tom Lockyer was not present for the trophy lift as he had to be taken to hospital after collapsing inside the opening 10 minutes.

This is a remarkable feat for the club, who were playing in the fifth tier of English football in 2014.

Luton will join Burnley and Sheffield United, who won automatic promotion as Championship winners and runners-up, in next season's Premier League.
