HULL, United Kingdom- Stephen Kingsley hailed Hull City FC’s performance in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday FC as their best of the season.

The Tigers dominated proceedings at the KCOM Stadium to record a sixth straight Sky Bet Championship win thanks to goals from Jarrod Bowen (2) and Fraizer Campbell and could have triumphed by an even greater margin had it not been for a string of five saves from Owls keeper Keiren Westwood.

Bowen broke the deadlock in first-half injury time with a well-taken curling effort and added his second of the afternoon from the penalty spot after Westwood had brought down Chris Martin.

Campbell wrapped the game up fifteen minutes from time shortly after coming onto the pitch, finishing well to continue the Tigers’ impressive unbeaten run with a sixth successive league victory.

“It was another important win,” said Kingsley.

“It was probably the best we’ve played this season and that showed in the result, but it was the manner in which we achieved the win that was the most pleasing aspect for all the boys.

“It was a convincing and dominant performance and we were excellent from start to finish.

“The timing of Jarrod’s first goal was key. It came at a vital time just before the break and the changed the mindset of both dressing rooms.

Confidence boost

“We were delighted to get the reward our efforts deserved and it meant they had to come out a little bit more in the second half, which obviously opened the space up more for us.

“And with us playing how we were – that was exactly what we wanted. We were different class with the ball and controlled the game from the off, which we haven’t done as much as we would’ve wanted to this season, but obviously everyone was delighted at both the result and the performance.”

The win lifted Nigel Adkins’ side into the top half of the league table for the first time in 2018/19, with Kingsley and his team-mates now just four points off a play-off spot in tenth, although the Scottish left-back was quick to stress no-one in the Tigers’ camp is getting away.

“It’s great to look at the table and see where we were are,” he added. “Things are looking good, but we’ve got some tough games coming and the focus has to be on one game at a time.

“We need to keep the mentality right and that’s what we have done the last few games, that’s why the results have been so good because the mindset is right. We can’t change what has been a winning formula.

“It’s testament to how well we are working and the belief in this squad. From where we were it’s fantastic and it’s a great confidence boost to know that we’re in with a chance if we keep this run going.

“I think it’s more just a case of seeing it and letting it inspire you to push you on. Let’s keep going and see where we can go this season.”
